Gayla Charrier for Adams-Arapahoe (Aurora) School Board

Introduction to Gayla Charrier

It's time for a new voice on the Adams-Arapahoe 28J (Aurora) School Board. I'm Gayla Charrier, a dedicated mother, small business owner, and wife, and I'm excited to announce my candidacy. With my background as a CNA and self-employed sales professional, I've developed strong community outreach skills, having worked with the public in various roles, including as a correctional officer, RTD, CDC, and military.

Reason for Running

I'm running for Adams-Arapahoe School Board because I wholeheartedly believe that every child deserves a free and exceptional education, and that parents, families, educators, and administrators should work together in a spirit of mutual respect and accountability to ensure that every student receives the support they need to thrive. As a passionate advocate for my school aged child who was diagnosed with non verbal autism and adhd, I completely understand what it means to be a team player, I'm committed to listening, learning, and amplifying the voices of our community members and educators. I'm driven by a desire to bridge the gaps in communication and understanding that can exist between our schools and our community, and to empower everyone to work together towards a common goal: providing the best possible education for every student. Over the coming months, I'll be immersing myself in the inner workings of our school board, learning about the critical role of unions, and engaging with community members to hear their concerns, ideas, and aspirations for our schools. I'm excited to build relationships, foster collaboration, and work tirelessly to ensure that every student in our district has access to the resources, support, and opportunities they need to succeed.

Core Issues

I unequivocally maintain that every child has an inherent right to receive a free education, and thus, should never be left behind. While providing the necessary tools, we create a positive path that ensures every child is safe and their educational needs are met . I also believe that parents of school-aged children are entitled to be informed about their child's treatment, progress, and needs, and to have access to additional resources as necessary.

Given my experience as a parent and advocate of a school-age child with special needs in the Aurora school district, as well as having a child graduate from the Cherry Creek school district, I am confident in my ability to facilitate a balance between students' needs and the information provided to parents. By working together to overcome obstacles, I firmly believe that all educators and administrators should always be treated with respect and dignity in order to achieve excellence.

I wholeheartedly support paths that guide us in this direction. I also believe that healthy living educational programs are crucial for promoting mental health awareness and wellness in our community. Additionally, I support charter schools and believe that parents should have access to information about their child's treatment, progress, and needs.

Election Stakes

The stakes in this election are high. The decisions made by the Adams-Arapahoe 28J (Aurora) School Board will impact the lives of thousands of students, educators, and families in our community. I believe that it's essential to have a dedicated and passionate advocate on the board, fighting for the rights and needs of our students and educators. I'm committed to working tirelessly to ensure that every student has access to a quality education, and that our educators have the support and resources they need to succeed.
